We are all grappling with COVID-19’s incredible impact on our city, especially on our most vulnerable neighbors and are looking to build coalitions to rise to this challenge.

Paul A. Castrucci, Architects (PCA) is working on two fronts:

civic engagement and volunteer efforts

Supportive Housing Master Planning and Research:  PCA is working with partner AEC professionals to identify strategies for meeting increased supportive housing needs, including:

  • Converting distressed hotels to accommodate Supportive Housing

  • Utilizing modular fabrication to fast-track new Supportive Housing construction

COVID-19 Volunteer Response Partnership.  PCA has spearheaded an active volunteer network of AEC professionals and non-profits aiding in COVID-19 response networks.

Cooling Centers during COVID 19 Design Charrettes:  With public pools and cooling centers expected to be closed, there is fear of overheating for vulnerable NYC residents. PCA is engaging in internal design charrettes - as well as engaging with partner AEC professionals - to provide solutions to this issue.

professional services and the built environment

With incredible pressure to provide supportive housing in the very near future, we believe that it's especially important that these projects are guided by principled design values. PCA believes that a socially equitable society provides housing that is healthy, sustainable, affordable and available for all.

Our strategy integrates a highly technical approach to sustainability and occupant health through Passive House design with an interrogation of social equity in the built environment through a focus on wellness, connection to the environment, and creation of vibrant social spaces in low-income communities.
