The Beacon NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Project Winner

We are supremely honored to announce our receipt of NYSERDA’s Building of Excellence award in Round 4’s Demonstration category for The Beacon, East Harlem.

NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence is a $58 million competition that recognizes and rewards the design, construction, and operation of carbon neutral or zero emissions multifamily buildings.

PCA is proud to be selected as NYSERDA’s BOE Early-Stage Design partners to carry out the study of carbon neutral-ready research for the Beacon at East Harlem Development. The study will investigate repeatable strategies of electrification in New York State’s housing stock.

NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence competition is a $40 million competition over three rounds. The competition recognizes and rewards the design, construction, and operation of very low or zero carbon emitting multifamily buildings. This affordable housing project will be one of New York’s first modular Passive House projects, and with its 130 kW rooftop solar array will become part of the roadmap to a carbon neutral future.

2015

The New York State Energy and Research Development Authority has recognized Paul A. Castrucci, Architect  with the Trailblazing Project Award for the R-951 Residence.  The Trailblazing Award honors the Passive House/Net Zero building as an innovative and unique high performance prototype.

AIA COTE AWARD winner
2015

In September 2015, the first Net Zero and Passive House building in the city, R-951, was declared the AIA NY COTE winner for the Townhouse category. On December 14th, Paul A. Castrucci was presented the award in a ceremony at the AIA headquarters in New York, where he gave a short lecture on the project's high efficiency for energy conversation and innovating technologies.


2015 R-951 RESIDENCE RECOGNIZED AT PHIUS AWARDS

On September 10th, 2015, R-951 Residence was recognized by the Passive House Institute in the US as an exemplary project that uses Passive House practices and Net Zero methodologies. R-951 Residence was awarded second place in their Multifamily Passive House Category.
