ABC No Rio
ABC No Rio is a community arts organization with roots in the Lower East Side of New York City dating back to the 1980's. The new building for this group consists of performance spaces, exhibition spaces, and artist studios. ABC No Rio is a project in conjunction with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Economic Development Corporation, and is on track to exceed Local Law 84 requirements by achieving LEED Silver status. The building is projected to be one of the first commercial Passive House certified buildings in New York City. By designing to this rigorous standard, we expect to reduce the building’s energy use by 75%. The architectural elements such as the planting screen and green facade are both a practical way to provide sun shade and a poetic statement to express ABC No Rio’s long time community arts programming in the Lower East Side.
