R-951 Residence is a super energy efficient, three-apartment row house that features a solar PV array and a rainwater harvesting system. It is the first building in New York City to have both Passive House and Net-Zero Ready certifications. This design/develop/construct project demonstrates Paul A. Castrucci, Architects’ dedication to smart design, sustainability, and building quality. R-951 is an example of how developers can leverage the New York City ‘Zone Green’ regulations with optimal results. Inspired by the rich textural qualities of exterior shutters in dense, urban areas of Asia, the front, south facing façade is articulated with a dynamic folding screen system, which gives residents control over the solar gain in each home.
